7th & 8th Grades
.

Welcome to the 7th and 8th grade classes.  My name is Mr. Martin and I will be one of your conductors on this excursion (I have 11 years of experience, you're safe with me). This year's journey will take you to many destinations.  We will enter an imaginary time machine that will take us to the beginning of the history of this nation.  We will find out that Alexander the Great's and Christ's births were predicted in the Old Testament.

Grab your musical instruments because we will be performing Christmas songs at our annual Christmas concert.  Find out why a Hatchet and Caddie Woodlawn are so important, who Zaccarias Janssen and Francisco Pizarro really were.

You will get paid in these classes (Martin Dollars)! You will also calculate the volume of a cylinder and find out that pi is more than just a delicious dessert. You will get to know friends that will help you along the way and, most importantly, find out who the real Creator is and how to share the love of God with others.

Hello, my name is Will Stone. I am one of the 7th & 8th grade teachers here at GAA.  This is my fourth full-time year here at Glenview.

Not only am I a teacher at Glenview, I'm also an alumnus!  Along with Mrs. Romero and Mr. Marsollier, I attended Glenview for my elementary school years.  I graduated in 1987, and then moved on to Thunderbird Adventist Academy, from which I graduated in 1991.  Being a product of Seventh-day Adventist education myself, it has a special place in my heart.

I believe it is very important for my students to recieve a balanced education.  We start each day with worship and end with Bible class, to help us keep Jesus with us throughout our day.

Academically, I am a tough teacher.  Prepare to be pushed!  I want each of my students to succeed to their fullest potential, as well as to be ready for high school before they ever get there.  While I believe the material we cover is important (we should all know when the Byzantine empire ruled, what a collective noun is, and the difference between a homozygous and a heterozygous chromosome), there are a few other things I want my students to have and know before they head off to high school:

1.  A real, functional relationship with Jesus Christ.  What is more important than that?  We are told in 1st John that "He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life." (Chapter 5, verse 12 NKJ).

2. The ability to think critically.  As a student leaves junior high, he or she needs to be able to think for themselves, to infer, and to extrapolate.  I want my students to question "why?", and to be able to find their own answers.

3.  The ability to write effectively.  In high school and beyond, there will be no more blanks to fill in, no more easy one-word answers.  Students will be required to write most homework in essay form, and I want my students to be able to fluently express themselves.

I hope that every student who comes through my class will enjoy themselves, as well as expand their horizons academically, intellectually, and spiritually.

Outside of school my interests are greatly varied.  I am a musician (I play the guitar and the alto saxophone, though I'm master of neither),  I am a martial artist (I hold a third-degree black belt in Shorin-ryu), and I am a video gamer (yes, I'm closer to 40 now than 30, but I still like to mash buttons sometimes).  I enjoy many types of literature. I am a hard-core Cardinals fan. More than anything, though, I enjoy spending time with my amazing family.

Now you know a bit about me, what would you like me to know about you?  Come enroll at GAA. Let's get to know each other and see what we can learn from one another!
