ABOUT ME

Hello, I am Karen Romero.  This is my 6th year teaching grades 3 and 4 at Glenview.  In 1978, at the age of 7, I moved to Arizona with my family and attended Glenview for my elementary years.  In 1983, I was baptized by Pastor Robertson (now the pastor of the Peoria-Sun Cities SDA church).  In 1994, I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.  I then worked at an eating disorder treatment center for 7 years, after which I stayed home with my children until I decided to go back to school.  In 2004 I graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. I am state certified and have endorsements in Structured English Immersion and Differentiated Instruction.  I am currently a member of the Glendale SDA church and I have 3 terrific children that attend Glenview Adventist Academy.

MY PHILOSOPHY ABOUT TEACHING

In my classroom it is important to me that each student grows personally, socially, academically, and spiritually.  I believe that a true education must include all of these and I strive daily to help my students achieve this goal.  I begin each day with worship, to create a caring setting.  The last class of the day is Bible, that way each child goes home with a positive spiritual end to their day.  Hands on projects are assigned in Social Studies and Science.  In English, the focus is on writing grammatically correct complete sentences and parts of speech.  I often allow my students to work collaboratively because I believe interaction fosters learning and leads to greater understanding in all areas.  On Fridays we do fun, educational activities, like math bingo, word games, art and more.  Other daily subjects include English, Reading, Handwriting, Spelling, Math, Phonics, Social Studies, and Science.  All 3rd and 4th grade curriculum is based on National Standards and more than 75% of our students perform at or above grade level.

Glenview is a great place to be and I hope to see you here!
